Planetary Sciences at the NSSDC


The National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) is NASA's deep archive and general distribution center for lunar and planetary data and images. More information about planetary sciences at the NSSDC is available.


What's New in Planetary Science

- Mars Global Surveyor has detected a martian magnetic field. It successfully performed its first aerobraking pass at 12:22 p.m. EDT on 17 September.

- The Galileo spacecraft made its third close approach to Callisto at 8:17 p.m. EDT on September 16. A detailed timelime of mission events is available.

- The launch of the Lunar Prospector mission to the Moon has been delayed until 23 November to complete launch vehicle preparations. More information is available in a 10 September press release.

- "Reconsidering Sputnik", a symposium looking at the influence of the first artificial satellite on the 40th anniversary of its launch will take place at the Smithsonian on September 30 - October 1, 1997.
